Scenario:
It’s Autumn 2000.
Former S.M.C.S member Derrik Jenkyns is visiting the National Railway Museum in York to undertake some research on the Bishop’s Castle Railway, using the extensive archives at the museum.
Whilst looking through some documents, he comes across some jottings about the railway, and decides that one in particular would be of interest to the Bishop’s Castle Railway Society.
These jottings had been made on the back of this document, by Pearce Higgins, and reproduced here for you to see. It was the SMC School List for the Michaelmas Term 1939, not that long before Derrik himself started as a pupil there – and Derrik tells us that he can remember at least 36 of those boys on the list!
